This class has taught me about my teaching, the strategies I use to teach language, and the students who are learning English while learning the content of their school curriculum. The readings for each week were informative and helped me to make important decisions regarding my philosophy of teaching for students who are English learners. By discussing these points with my classmates, I was able to hear their perspectives and learn what important details they had drawn from the texts. We taught each other in that way, by asking questions and summarizing our major learning with regards to English language instruction. We did more than just rephrase the readings; it was extremely helpful to learn about certain critiques we had, problems and limitations we predicted, or plans we formulated to improve our teaching techniques. In the following exchanges I demonstrate my growing knowledge of English learners, learning methods, and the interaction between schools and communities, and begin to practice using some of the strategies in my work for the course.
