Hi! I'm Amanda. I have been interested in education since high school when I volunteered at a local elementary magnet school. The students in the third grade class where I volunteered loved learning math, science, and reading with their home room teacher. I was inspired to volunteer with tutoring at various schools, being a Big Sis for Big Brothers Big Sisters, and, later, coaching for Girls On The Run.
In college I changed my major several times because I was not sure what I wanted to study most. My coursework ranged from Computer Programming to Chemical Engineering to English Literature and Poetry. Then during my second year at KU my advisor convinced me to take the class Teaching & Learning 100 with Dr. Neal. I was so impressed with the School of Education that I applied and got accepted to start there in Fall of 2006.
Eight years later I am nearing completion of my Masters in Education at KU. I have taught language arts for two years and now I'm a paraeducator for eighth grade science. I hope to soon have my own Language Arts classroom again using all the strategies I've researched while studying at KU!
